About R & D Farms
R & D Farms is a family owned cow-calf operation located in Dardanelle, Arkansas. Owners Richie and Divella Gray were influenced by farmers in their lives growing up—either by grandparents that farmed or in Divella's case, growing up on a dairy farm. Their careers provided them the opportunity to establish a farm in the River Valley where they raised their children. In 2015, the Grays were the Yell County Farm Family of the Year. Over the years, Richie and Divella have raised cattle, goats, and chickens. These days, they devote their time on the farm to raising quality Angus cattle.
Their operation consists of both a commercial and a registered Angus herd. At R & D Farms, Richie and Divella raise and develop all of the animals they sell. None of their animals are given added growth hormones. R & D Farms markets finished beef, bred heifers, and registered Angus bulls. Their goal is to provide customers with the best product possible, whether that product is beef to serve their family, a bull for their cow herd, or replacement heifers for their operation.
At R & D Farms, steers, heifers, and bulls are developed on a combination of grain, hay, and pasture. They incorporate rotational grazing to best utilize forages. Their pastures consist predominantly of fescue, crab, and bermuda grasses with rye grass used as winter supplement. Cattle are fed top quality bermuda hay from a local producer during the winter months.
A Note from Richie and Divella:
From personal experience, we understand the importance of quality animals. For years we have retained and developed our own heifers. We are selective in which heifers are developed for replacements. Bulls provide 50% of the genetic potential for a farmer’s calf crop. When choosing which bulls will be developed for that job, we consider a battery of characteristics as not all prospective buyers are looking for the same traits. Growth, fertility, structural soundness, carcass qualities, and birth weight are a few of the characteristics on which we focus. We look forward to providing you with quality livestock to build or develop your herd.
